Families of Keyston 1600 to 1911
Keyston (or Chetelstan) appears as a settlement in Domesday Book, in the hundred of Leightonstone in the county of Huntingdonshire. In 1086 it consisted of 32 households, made up of 24 villagers and 8 smallholders. It has never been a particularly large village with the highest number of residents recorded as 237 on the 1881 census, following a large increase in the number of children in the village.
The name Keyston is derived from ‘Boundary stone of a man called Ketil’ believed to be of old Scandinavian origin (the language of the Vikings)
The database has been populated with census data from 1841 - 1911. But this only provides estimated Dates of Birth (based on Census Age) and in most cases, we do not know the maiden names of the married women. We hope to address both these issues as we work our way through St John the Baptist Church records. Currently there are just over 1,500 individuals on the database --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Log on as guest with password keyston to see current status --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Contact UsIf you have any questions or comments about the information on this site, please contact us.
